Hashim, another victim of violence by extremists, was attacked on Abu Nawas Street. Famous for its restaurants and bars, the street has become a symbol of the relative progress made in Baghdad. But it was where Hashim was set on by four men, had a finger cut off and was badly beaten. His assailants left a note warning that he had one month to marry and have "a traditional life" or die. "Since that day I have not left my home. I'm too scared and don't have money to run away," Hashim said.

AllKindsofLove.Net is our small effort to alleviate some of the suffering documented by Human Rights Watch in a 2009 report entitled, "They Want us Exterminated."

According to this report, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual people, especially men, have been subject to regular violence in Iraq for at least five years now. 2009 saw an alarming spike in the torture and killings described as a "massacre" and "a slaughterhouse on the streets." Hamid, whose longtime partner was brutally murdered explains:

"Since then, I've been unable to speak properly. I feel my life is pointless now . . . For years it has just been my boyfriend and myself in that little bubble, by ourselves. I have no family now - I cannot go back to them. I have a death warrant on me."

We are deeply troubled to see love punished in Iraq with unremitting death, terror and grief.

Easily the most important source of institutionalized support for the LGBT community in Iraq comes from IRAQI LGBT. This London based non-profit establishes safe houses in Iraq and neighboring countries while pursuing asylum projects for those running from the violence. IRAQI LGBT is severely underfunded; there are too few safe houses and these are full to overflowing. Therefore, we forward all of our proceeds to its organizers. Buy from us, talk about us, and support the cause.
